Why Book With Us?
Since 1934, The Junior League of Austin (JLA) has demonstrated its commitment to serving the Austin community with volunteers and funds. Our fundraising efforts and community partners have expanded and grown throughout the years. Currently, we are proud to promote volunteerism and community service through our Community Programs: Food in Tummies (FIT), Coats for Kids (CFK), Done-in-a-Day, and Kids in Cool Shoes, (KICS). Our funds and volunteer hours support these and other agencies working to meet needs and serve our growing population of Austin.
Booking an event at our space in the Community Impact Center will provide the necessary funds to support and expand our programs. We currently provide 1,000 backpacks with weekend meals for students at schools in Del Valle Independent School District for 34 weeks in the school year. Over 97% of these students rely on nutrition from the free and reduced lunch programs. These students experience food scarcity both from economic circumstances and the lack of grocery stores in their school district area. The FIT program fulfills a need for nutritious food for students while also supporting their attendance and school performance.
Our CFK program distributes more than 30,000 warm winter coats to eligible children each year. Our Done-in-a-Day program provides local non-profits with valuable volunteers for special events. Our newest program, KICS, fitted over 655 children with shoes in the spring of 2018 and continues to grow.
Our long-history working with the Greater Austin community allows us to fulfill needs with other area non-profits. The work with our partner agencies varies from recording books with the Texas School for the Blind, counseling abuse victims with the SAFE Alliance, and mentoring young women with the Girls Empowerment Network.
Our own community programs, along with our community partner agencies provide 160,000 hours of volunteer service to our community. The members of the JLA are proud to continue these programs as part of our 85-year commitment to the Greater Austin community.
Our vision for the Community Impact Center is to provide a space for community members to gather for both collaboration and celebration. An event at the Community Impact Center enables the JLA to sustain and expand our programs to provide support and solutions for the challenges in our community.
